Camera Shy
You wouldn't believe the time and effort it took to get a decent picture of this darned bird! He's practically become part of the family, he's here so often. However, he's very camera shy; dashing off the moment I reach for my camera, yet lingering for long stretches of time if he realizes the camera was accidentally left inside.
Of course, Rod (who names everything: cars, ficus plants, wild birds, stray cats) has made it official. Please meet "Wally."

That's an impressive shot, Les. And, yes, I do know how difficult those fellows are to photograph!! I need to plant more things that will attract ours, next year. We have a Wally (probably, actually, he's a Bubba) but he doesn't hang around for more than a few seconds. I have one very blurry photo taken when I happened to open the window with camera in hand, but that's it.
Nancy,
I can't tell you how many times Wally has shown up at the Lantana plant while Rod & I have been out on the deck. Of course he never visits when I'm out there with my camera. One morning, after seeing him at the plant, I went inside, got the camera, sat myself down in one of the deck chairs and waited for him to come back. I sat out there for 30 minutes (didn't realize how much time had passed until I'd gone back inside). Not only did I waste half an hour when I had other things to do, but I was out there in my bathrobe! I had to laugh at myself afterwards. All that for a picture of a bird. A sneaky little smarty-pants bird!
